Solo Exhibit by Marta Penter

Caldwell Snyder is excited to announce an exhibition of Marta Penter’s recent works in our St. Helena Gallery.

Marta Penter studied psychology before turning to art, a sensibility evident in her careful observations of human behavior and connections. She continues to live and work in in Porto Alegre, and has exhibited internationally at art fairs and museums.

Filled with reflections, her canvases hold up a mirror to the labyrinthine confusions that we all create with our desires, particularly when we travel, perceiving ourselves as cultured and special, crossing the world in search of the ineffable, as we mix with the masses of cult tourism, the anonymous hordes seeking the same transporting experiences. In her paintings, unique people and works, with their own singularity and authenticity, are dissolved into shadows and ghosts, the world multiplied into spectral, intertwined universes: a maze of signs, simulacra, and
inextricable icons, all seen through armored glass whose function is to both expose and preserve.
